Save The Date: The 2nd Annual Canton Club 24 HR Spinners for Dinners will begin November 6th, 2009 at 5 PM! The first annual Canton Club 24 Hour Spinners for Dinners cycle-thon was a huge success! Thanks to the support of all the sponsors, members, instructors, staff, friends and family of Canton Club Health and Fitness. The event raised $8,900 collected over 500 canned food items, and donated 50 shirts to the Bea Gaddy Family Center. Every year Canton Club will host a 24 hour cycle-thon in which 24 consecutive cycling classes will be offered to raise money for the Bea Gaddy Family Center. The Bea Gaddy Family Center was founded by Bea Gaddy, who rose from a life of poverty to become Baltimore's leading advocate for the homeless and poor. Gaddy held her first Thanksgiving dinner in 1981, feeding 39 people. The event at Patterson Park peaked in 1993, when 2,000 volunteers served 20,000 people. Last year, it served about 3,000. Ms. Gaddy passed away in 2001, but the Center carries on. More information on the Center and how to contribute can be found at http://www.bea-gaddy-family-center.org.
